     What traces does a war leave once it's officially over? The Oresteia is the story of a return to a home where nothing is the same as it was before. A home where it's difficult to distinguish justice from revenge, and victim from perpetrator. Luk Perceval, one of the most important artists active in European theatre today, in his first work for the National Theatre, returns to the oldest surviving tragic trilogy - not just to retell an ancient story for the umpteenth time. He is interested in the mechanism that ensures violence fails to cease with the end of a war.

     120 years after the world premiere of Gabriela Zapolska's acclaimed work, we once again turn to The Morality of Mrs. Dulska to examine what kind of dirty laundry is best washed at home. Anna Augustynowicz, staging a production at the National Theatre for the first time, will focus her interpretation of the canonical work on the issue of desire, something which consumes the heroines and heroes in a variety of ways. Unfulfilled ambitions, unquenched desires, unhealthy rivalry, and impure thoughts – all are to be found in this story of the most famous of Polish families.

    In his first play at the National Theatre, director Jan Klata has opted for Tadeusz Miciński's The Polish Thermopylae. As he announces in his programme notes, it is "a phantasmagoria about the cursed fate of our corner of Europe. About Poland, Russia, Ukraine, about the shadow that Fate has cast on successive generations of History's cannon fodder."
    The premiere of The Polish Thermopylae will take place on November 22, 2025, to mark the 260th anniversary of the National Theatre.
